Gianna Jessen

I did not know Gianna Jessen existed before today, but hers is a remarkable story worth sharing.  Gianna is a singer of some talent, a young woman who has addressed the British parliament, has testified before the Constitution Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee, is known to such famous people as George W. Bush and the late Teresa of Calcutta (known by the world as "Mother Teresa"), and has become addicted to running marathons.  This is made more incredible when you know that Gianna has cerebral palsy.  It had been predicted that she would not walk, but she is a resilient young woman accustomed to overcoming such incredible odds.

Gianna Jessen is also a young woman much opposed to abortion.  She is quite articulate and effective as a speaker in this realm.  She considers herself an ardent believer in Christ and the Bible factors powerfully in her conviction that abortion is murder.  The Bible certainly is on her side.  In Psalm 139:13, the psalmist declares that God made him in his mother's womb.  God tells the prophet Jeremiah that God knew and ordained him in the womb (Jeremiah 1:5).  Jesus Christ did not become a person at birth, but was all-God and all-man in the womb (Matthew 1:20-21).  What if Mary had exercised her supposed "power of choice" concerning the Savior of the world?

Jessen, a 31 year old born in Los Angeles, California, is right to believe that the unborn is from God, is living, and is a person complete with different DNA and unique traits than both mother and father.  We can also appreciate Jessen's further passion on the matter of abortion.  Gianna's mother was seven-and-a-half months pregnant when she went into an abortion clinic to have a saline injection which routinely aborts the unborn baby.  Gianna was a "failed abortion," but she has become such a highly successful person.  When you study Gianna's picture, that's the other face of abortion.  The face that is allowed to be animated with the expression of life, that is not snuffed out by "choice."  Over 46 million babies since 1973 do not share the ending that you and I and Gianna had.  We were born alive.  They were aborted.  Meanwhile, the Father in heaven has watched all that has gone on since January 22, 1973, the day Roe vs. Wade made abortion legal in our country.
