This has been the most prominent national issue of 2009. Some politicians tout its pros, while others bemoan its woes. A big vote awaits on it, and we should pray that any country's good, right ideas are advanced and its bad, wrong ideas are defeated.
There is one universal health care plan for which I am very much in support, however. It is the one designed in heaven and implemented on earth. It is not only superior to its counterparts, it is absolutely essential. Here is why I so favor this universal health care.
Its Administrator. No earthly government is in charge of it. It is the product of heaven (cf. Eph. 3:9-11; Gal. 4:4). Jesus is the Great Physician (Lk. 5:31). He provides exactly what is needed (cf. Heb. 11:40).
Its Affordability. Jesus paid the cost at Calvary (Gal. 4:5; Eph. 1:7; Ti. 2:14). We could not afford the price to give ourselves proper, spiritual care, but God expended the necessary resources to provide the care full and free (Rom. 3:24; Rev. 22:17).
Its Ability. It addresses man's biggest concern, sinsickness. This spiritual ailment is eternally fatal if untreated. Whereas all earthly medicine ultimately fails (cf. Heb. 9:27; Ecc. 9:5), those who come to the Great Physician will receive eternal life if they continue to submit to His care (Heb. 9:15).
Its Attentiveness. No one gets lost in the system or neglected. There is no long paperwork or waiting process. We have access to healing whenever we pursue. All the benefits (cf. Eph. 1:3) are available when we seek them (Mt. 7:7-8). We have access as often as we seek it (Heb. 7:25).
Its Ambitiousness. It is ambitious in scope--it is universal (John 3:16). It is ambitious in the nature of what it treats and covers--sin (1 Jn. 2:1-2). It is ambitious in the durability of the product--it will work for eternity (Mt. 25:46).
Whatever your feelings about the health care debate going on in our country, I hope you will feel as you should about the universal health care of which I speak. You need to have it and it is readily available. There is no acceptable, alternative plan (Jn. 14:6; Acts 4:12). Make sure you are covered (Rom. 4:7)!
