Life is full of choices. Sometimes we make wise choices and sometimes we make foolish choices. Sometimes the choices we make are very important and sometimes they are quite meaningless. Nonetheless, we are constantly faced with making choices.
As we go through this life preparing ourselves for eternity it is imperative that we do not make foolish choices that lead to destruction. One of the most important choices we will make in this regard is the company we choose. Our friends can be very influential. Many Christians have left the Lord because they surrounded themselves with ungodly men. Scripture says "the righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray" (Proverbs 12:26). This is terribly sad because friends should not hurt one another. Rather, friends should help one another. And a good friend is in a great position to do so.
Friends can greatly influence each other, but that does not and should not be a bad thing. The wise Solomon said "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up. Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; but how can one be warm alone? Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken" (Ecclesiast 4:9-12). When we choose our friends let us choose wisely. To ignore Biblical teaching in this regard could have eternal consequences.
