emissions light stays on

Have you ever bought a used car that cost you more money in repairs than the actual cost of the car is worth? If so then you will understand what I am talking about. About a year ago I bought a car that would be more comfortable (then my truck) since my wife and I were expecting a baby girl. We were excited about the new vehicle because it was exactly what we were looking for and the price was great. However, about a month later the emissions light came on. So naturally we took it into the shop. When we got it back the light was off and everything seemed to be good. Not long after that the light came back on, so we took it to the shop again. This process has repeated itself five times this year. We just cannot seem to get the problem fixed. The little light on the dashboard is a constant reminder of the problems in this car. It is a light that we just cannot get to go away. No matter how hard we try or how much money we spend this little light continues to shine. Obviously, this is not a good thing. However, as we think about lights that continue to shine it can be symbolic of a very good thing. Jesus said, "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:14-16). We as Christians are to be lights in this dark world. Our lights should be a constant reminder of the problems there are in this world but the glory that belongs to our God. Our works should bring others to realize the stiff contrast that there is between a worldly life and a godly life. They should bring others to glorify God. Many will try to rid the world of this light and cover its illumination. However, we should be that light that continues to shine no matter how hard others try to turn us off. I hope that on day I will no longer have to worry about that light in my car. I hope the mechanics fix the problem so that light will turn off. However, I earnestly pray that we who are the light that brings glory to God will shine until our Lord returns. Let no one hinder you from shining.
