600 lbs New Jersey woman whose goal was to be 1,000 lbs with the next two years

What are your goals? The truth is we all have them and for the most part setting goals is a good thing. However, we occasionally hear of someone who sets goals that are not good. Earlier this week I read of a 600 lbs New Jersey woman whose goal was to be 1,000 lbs with the next two years. This goal she has set is in no way beneficial for herself, her husband, or child. Yet, she is determined to reach it. She is going to have to sacrifice a lot to reach this 1,000 lbs mark. This will bring financial strain as her weekly grocery bill exceeds $750.00, she has admitted that it makes her job as a parent much more difficult, and certainly there are health concerns that will come into account.  However, none of these things have deterred her from reaching her goal. It is quite obvious that this lady needs to re-evaluate her priorities. However, she has taught us some very valuable lessons. It is great to have goals and to be willing to sacrifice to achieve those them; that is, if the goals we have are profitable. Paul was one who certainly set goals for himself. He said, "Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:12-14). Paul wanted to live his life as godly as he possibly could so that he could reach his goal of living with God in heaven.  We should all have this goal in mind. We should all desire to live godly so we can live with God eternally. Paul clearly made many sacrifices so that he could obtain this goal. He turned down riches, had many health concerns, and faces numerous other difficulties so that he could obtain his goal.  The question is "are we willing to do the same?" Have we set up godly goals in our lives and are we willing to sacrifice to achieve those goals? The truth is that no matter what goal you have set it will not be achieved without sacrifice. What greater goal is there then getting to heaven to live with God forever? What are you willing to sacrifice to achieve it?
